The Lucas Allied Health Institute believes in individuality and uniqueness of each person. The staff believes it is the facility's mission to offer their patients, students, and employees every opportunity to develop and maintain their uniqueness through planned, caring activities. By striving to meet staff, students and patient's needs, the facility offers a harmonious, production environment that leads to enriched quality of life.

AHI belief in the individuality and uniqueness of each person, and their mission to offer every opportunity for people to develop and maintain their individuality through planned, caring activities; the instructors of the nursing assistant program strive to meet patients and students needs through an educational program which help people to a maintain a healthful or productive state.

The Medical Assistant Program is based on the belief that when people are unable to meet their health needs, nurses provide assistance with their care. This care is supplemented by nursing assistants who provide personal and skilled nursing-related activities, and help people to a more healthful state, medical assistants must use information obtained through classroom and clinical instruction. This program offers information necessary for nursing assistants to assist nurses by performed medical assistant's activities that help people meet their individual, unique needs.

 

TERMINAL OBJECTIVES - Back toTop

At the completion of the LAHI Medical Assistant Program, students will be able to:

•  form a relationship, communicate and interact effectively with individuals and groups when acting in the nursing assistant role;

•  demonstrate sensitivity and understanding related to individual emotional, physical mental and social health needs through the use of skillful, direct nursing-related activities;

•  assist individuals to attain and maintain functional independence in the home or in a health-care facility through the use of adaptive or restorative devices to meet an individual's unique needs;

•  exhibit behaviors supporting and promoting confidentiality, and people's right to privacy, as well as an environment free from physical or verbal abuse;

•  demonstrate observational and recording skills required for reporting people's safety and welfare, physical, mental and social health, and general well-being.

•  provide safe nursing-related activities under the supervision of licensed personnel;

 

Medical Assistant Program - Back toTop

The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on office location, size, and specialty. In small practices, medical assistants are usually “generalists,” handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area under the supervision of a physician.

Medical Assistant Program Entry Requirements
The Medical Assistant program is an open admission program that has limited enrollment. Individuals interested in the program are encouraged to contact Admission office about registration dates, any course prerequisites, and other academic concerns or questions. You must complete a LAHI application and take the Compass math and reading placement tests prior to registration for the first medical assistant prerequisite class.

Program Requirements
Medical Assistant Program Essential Functions-All students must be able to perform the essential functions of the curriculum. In addition to the general admission criteria required by the college, medical assistant students must be able to:

•  Use digital fine motor skills with both hands continually throughout the day.

•  See clearly enough to read hand-written and computer-generated communications.

•  Work standing on their feet for the majority of the day.

•  Walk to and from patient service areas for the majority of the day.

•  Help patients in and out of phlebotomy and/or examination chairs and tables.

•  Write and speak to patients and staff effectively.

•  Interact appropriately with patients, physicians, peers and supervisor.

•  Use good judgment to seek assistance when needed.

•  Lift a minimum of 25 pounds unassisted.

•  Apply safety and infection control standards learned in the program to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and self.

Students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in all prerequisite and required courses in order to advance within the program.

The medical assisting externship consists of 160 hours of unpaid training at one of the LAHI affiliated clinical sites. Most externship sites require that students have a completed health/physical form, required immunizations, current CPR certification, HIPAA understanding, health insurance and a criminal background check and drug screening. You must be prepared to travel to your assigned externship site.

The medical assisting externship must be completed within 7 months of completing the clinical courses.

 

Documents to be submitted for Graduation Petition
Graduation petition dates are posted on campus and may be obtained from the Admission and Registration office located in the College Center . Students are responsible for obtaining the form and completing it.

•  A completed high school transcript showing date of graduation or a GED certificate will be required

•  Students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in all prerequisite and required courses in order to graduate.

Health and Physical Form
Prior to the externship course, students will receive a health history and physical examination form. This must be completed and signed by a licensed physician. Students must prove proof of required immunizations.

Health Insurance
Proof of health insurance is also required and included as part of the health form.

CPR Healthcare Provider Card
All students must possess a valid CPR Healthcare Provider card prior to externship assignments. Medical Assistant Externship and  Medical Assistant Seminar are courses including clinical assignments and related activities.

Criminal Background Checks
In order to comply with certain state statutes and/or clinical affiliation agreements, students will be asked to complete a criminal background check. Application forms for criminal background checks may be obtained through your local police department. For information on criminal background application procedures, please contact the Admission office  (866)930-2344 .

Deadline dates for completion of criminal background checks will be announced by Program Coordinators.

Drug Screening
In order to comply with clinical affiliation requirements, students will be asked to submit a sample for drug screening prior to the start of the externship. Program Coordinators will provide students with the instructions on how to complete the required drug screening.

Transfer Information
At present, LAHI does not accept Medical Assistant transfer credit.

 

READMISSION - Back toTop

 

The director will determine the eligibility for readmission for any student having been suspended or terminated by the school for academic, conduct, or and attendance problems. If eligible the student may reapply at the beginning of the next scheduled class. A complete new application process will be required. The student seeking readmission will be considered with all new applicants who have applied for the course. If accepted, the student will begin from the beginning of the class.

A student may be granted an approved leave of absence (LOA) under the circumstances listed below:

Instructional Methods - Back toTop

Instructors will utilize lecture, classroom discussions, laboratory exercises, hands-on experience, role playing, demonstrations, media ancillaries, school library for research, and student assignments to facilitate students' achievement of course objectives. Students will complete a research paper or project utilizing, but not limited to, library resources, texts, electronic resources, multimedia, Internet, and research database. The research will focus on topics of interest from within the current module. All classes are designed and presented using the module method.

Conduct - Back toTop

Career preparation is the objective of all of our training. A student's conduct should be that which is normally accepted in the business environment. Use of profanity, alcohol beverages, or drugs will not be tolerated on school property. No weapons allowed on campus. Smoking is not permitted in the school building a student violating these conduct standards may be suspended by the school Director. A suspended student may apply for reinstatement after a month of suspension. The decision of the director will be final.

 

Attendance - Back toTop

Regular on-line attendance is essential for adequate training in the programs offered at LAHI. Attendance is reported on daily bases. Cultivation of excellent work habits is just as important as the acquisition of the knowledge and the development of skills needed in a given occupation. Students should train themselves to be present and on time for all classes. Students are responsible for all work missed during any absences and should follow the Make-up policy below.


Late Payment Policy for Tuition - Back toTop

LAHI reserves the right to charge a 5% late fee per month on tuition accounts which are five or more days late.

 

REFUND POLICY - Back toTop

I understand that the WITHDRAWAL AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES REFUND POLICY SHALL BE:

•  After a student has completed less than 15% of the course, the institution shall refund at least 8O% of the tuition, less the registration fee, thereafter,

•  After a student has completed less than one fourth of the course, the institution shall refund at least 70% of tuition, less the registration fee, thereafter,

•  After a student has completed one fourth but less than one half of the course, the institution shall refund at least 45% of tuition, less the registration fee, thereafter,

•  After a student has completed one half or more of the course, the institution may retain 100% of the stated course price.

 

Lucas Allied Health Institute reserves the right to cancel a start date due to insufficient enrollment.

A full refund will be given if a class start date is changed and/or the monies maybe applied to the next scheduled start date. If after 30 days a class has not been rescheduled a full refund will be given to the student.

If a student is fails to attend the first class he/she will receive a full refund. Accept the application fee which is non-refundable.

VA-ONLY the school policy concerning refund of any unused portion of prepaid tuition and fees on a pro rata basis. Any amount in excess of $10.00 for an enrollment of registration fee will also be pro-rated.


GRADING POLICY - Back toTop

Students must maintain a 70% or greater average in all courses.

90-100 = A

80-89 = B

70-79 = C

60-69 = D

59 & below = F

 

Dismissal - Back toTop

A student who receives an F (failure) grade shall repeat that subject for which that grade was given the next time the subject is offered. A student who fails the same subject twice will be dismissed from Lucas' Allied Health Training Institute.

Cheating is not tolerated in any class. If a student is suspected of or found cheating on a test, he/she will receive a zero for the test grade. If a second incident occurs, the student will fail that course and be forced to repeat the course at the end of the program. If a third incident occurs, the student will be dismissed from Lucas Allied Health Institute.

COURSE COMPLETION AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS - Back toTop

A certificate will be issued upon completion of all the above criteria.


Complaint resolution - Back toTop

If a student has a complaint regarding lectures, tests, equipment or supplies, or if an academic, attendance or disciplinary problem arises and a student feels that the action taken is unfair or unwarranted; he/she should first discuss the problem with the instructor.

Students complaints relative to actions of school officials shall be addressed to the NonPublic Post Secondary Education, 2189 Northlake Parkway , Building 10 Suite 100, Tucker , Ga. 30084-4113, only after the student has unsuccessfully attempted to resolve the matter with the school after having first filed a written and signed complaint with the school's officials.
